First Steps Forward

Project Proposal

First Steps Forward - Ongoing Project

It has been our observation that 1st standard children of government schools do not reach expected levels of reading. Our data since 2008 shows that only 8-12% reach the expected levels. So more that 80% children move on to 2nd standard without the level appropriate reading skills. There is a need to focus on this group to address this problem.

A special focus program needs to be designed to address the issue. As part of our School Intervention program, we have launched First Steps Forward program which is designed to provide regular guidance to the children. Our teachers ( called Book Fairies) visit each 1st standard class in 123 schools every day and conduct 30 mins session with children which includes fun learning using innovative teaching aids. At the end of the year, learning levels a measured to assess progress.
